Elective classes at SLTC are one way to make yourself a more attractive candidate for employment. There are additional costs for all elective classes not included in the ELP, and space is limited. See our tuition & fees page for more info. Sign-ups for the elective classes in each session are limited. Enrollment is offered on a first come, first served basis. SLTC graduates unable to secure one of the COC or DDC allocated slots will have the opportunity to attend the class at a future date at the same cost.
SLTC provides this training and certification on our campus. A number of states and utility companies require certification for the operation of digger derricks and/or cranes. Although crane certification is not mandatory for employment with these companies, an applicant with the certification would be a more valuable employee.
Each enrollee will receive a minimum of 24 hours of classroom instruction and a minimum of 8 hours available practice time followed by a written exam and crane truck practical exam. Upon successful completion of the written and practical exams, students will receive the nationally recognized CIC Accredited Operator Certification from the Crane Institute of America.
SLTC offers a Qualified Digger Derrick program to its ELP students. The Digger Derrick training curriculum serves as qualification as well as a prep course for NCCCO and other Digger Derrick exams. Part of the course is taken through our online training platform and is designed to verify and validate the training requirements for a Qualified Digger Derrick Operator.
Students are also required to perform a practical evaluation on a digger derrick. This program is designed to give students additional training on digger derricks and will make each qualified operator more marketable to potential employers.
