Many people are aware that Chattanooga and the surrounding areas are known for outdoor activities and attractions such as hiking and water activities. What you may not know is that there are also some of the best indoor activities that you can’t miss out on, rain or shine. So if you find yourself wanting to spend the day indoors but also wanting to have fun here are 9 indoor activities in the area to enjoy.

If you are an animal lover and enjoy seeing cute water critters, the Tennessee Aquarium is a great place to visit. With two exhibits, the River Journey and Ocean Journey, you can view many types of sea creatures and water-based animals, including sharks, otters, turtles, and of course the famous penguins. The aquarium also has a beautiful butterfly garden you can walk through and is definitely worth the trip.

Ruby Falls may be one of the highlights of Chattanooga and Rock City. It is located under Lookout Mountain, offers cavern adventures, and features beautiful waterfalls that are sure to take your breath away. No matter what the weather is, Ruby Falls is one attraction you cannot pass up.

If you are more of a thrill seeker, then rock climbing walls may be for you. With locations in Downtown Chattanooga and Riverside, High Point Climbing offers rock climbing walls for all ages and difficulty levels. From gear rentals, 45 ft climbing walls, & 100+ boulder problems, you are sure to have a fun experience.

When the weather is poor or you want to do something in a relaxed environment, the first activity that normally comes to mind is the movies, but why just go to any movie theater when you can take it to the next level and enjoy the big screen even bigger in the IMAX theater? Chattanooga has multiple locations to view movies on Imax including the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3D Theater and the AMC 18 & IMAX Theatre. With movies coming out each week there is destined to be one you can catch with friends, family, or even by yourself. So grab some popcorn, a drink, and candy and catch up on all the popular movies being released.

Bowling has always been a pastime activity to enjoy indoors with family and friends and Spare Time Entertainment has all the bowling you can ask for. What could be more fun than all the arcade games you could play? Dave and Busters is a great place to hang out with friends and family while staying indoors. With options to eat, drink, watch sports, and play games you are bound to have a good time.

If you’re looking for something a little more exciting, axe throwing may be what you are looking for. Chattanooga has three locations for this fun and daring activity, Valkyrie Axe Throwing, Civil Axe Throwing, and Craft Axe Throwing. Open to ages 10 years and up depending on the individual business, axe throwing may just be the indoor excursion to have fun and change things up a bit while also being able to socialize with your company.

Whether you are into golf or have never touched a club a day in your life, you can’t miss out on a trip to Top Golf. It is easily one of the best activities to do rain or shine and while it’s not completely indoors, it is covered and has fans for the summer and heaters for the winter.
